Back to Our Impact

Pitquhirnikkut Ilihautiniq / Kitikmeot Heritage Society

Bringing our families together and learning together means we can carry these skills on from generation to generation. Having my mom and my grandmother here with me, it’s special because they teach me, and I learn and I help to teach others, so that these skills are not forgotten. They’re not lost. Even when this program is over, we’ll be able to look back and learn how to prepare skins and we’ll be able to teach others in the community.

“It’s important to keep our dialect alive, so we can learn from our Elders, and communicate with them. We need to learn how to do proper ways of hunting, fishing, sewing, carving. Everything to do with our culture.”

“Our sessions have been very helpful to me. I was able to deal with my son’s death in a positive setting and I felt like things were lifted off my shoulders.”
