Three New Faces Join the Bell Let’s Talk Campaign
Montreal, QC , Tuesday, September 22, 2015
On September 22nd we had the pleasure of introducing Canada to our newest Bell Let’s Talk Spokespeople, singer-songwriter Serena Ryder, retired CFL player Étienne Boulay and actor Marie Soleil Dion.
Having struggled with depression since she was 13, Serena Ryder isn’t a stranger to the campaign, as she joined Clara Hughes at the Montréal Rocks for Mental Health concert during Clara’s Big Ride in 2014 to raise awareness for mental health and reduce the stigma around mental illness. Since the release of the 2012 critical and commercial smash “Harmony” Serena Ryder has been catapulted to the forefront of music stardom - reaching triple-platinum status, winning multiple Juno and SOCAN Awards, a MUCH Video Award, appearances on The Tonight Show and most recently performing at the Pan Am Games Closing Ceremonies alongside Kanye West and Pitbull.
A popular sports personality recognized for his involvement with young people, Étienne Boulay is a former star player for the Montréal Alouettes and Vrak.tv host with an impressive track record. In 2006, Étienne was drafted by the Canadian Football League’s Montréal Alouettes. Étienne participated in the Alouettes’ Grey Cup victories in 2009 and 2010. He won a third Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts in 2013. Following his retirement in 2014, Étienne suffered from depression, which was exasperated by his previous concussions.
Étienne retired with the intention of focusing on his media career. It was a smart bet. Les Testeurs, the show he has been co hosting with Patrice Bélanger on VRAK télé since 2011, has made him a star with young people.
After graduating from the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec in 2007, Marie Soleil Dion saw her career quickly take off when she landed the role of Cathou in the highly popular youth series Vrak la vie. This show aired for six years, during which time the actress also appeared on other sets—D_ieu merci_, Et si?, Subito Texto and Quart de vie to name a few. More recently, she performed alongside Rémi-Pierre Paquin in Théorie du KO, in which she played Titanick, a very colourful character!
Marie Soleil currently engages youth in weekly segments on V-RAK TV across Quebec speaking to youth about the difficulties she faced in high school and how she maintained courage throughout.
